Fall 2005 CS Undergraduate Studies Committee Notes
Meeting Notes
9/12/05 11:30-12:30 - (DG)
The committee selected CS201 for review last semester (Step C3).
Since CS201(CS115/CS116) was just recently redesigned and the programming
language changed to Java, this detailed review foccused mainly on the course
objectives and suggested syllabus. Current CS201 objectives/syllabus were
handed out and will be discussed it at our next meeting.
Detailed Course Review - CS450 materials collected for Fall 2005, to
be reviewed in Spring 2006 - (MB to GK) The CS Undergraduate Committee
has chosen CS450 as a course to review this semester (every semester we
review a different undergraduate course). What this means is that we would
like you to collect the following items this fall for CS450. These items
can be collected electronically or paper copies and can be submitted to
me during or after the semester. You can ask Brenda in the CS dept (or
your TA) to make copies of graded student work. Syllabus Book Lecture Notes
and any other course handouts Exams - copies of graded student work with
feedback (high, medium, low) Labs/Homework - copies of graded student work
with feedback (high, medium, low) Project - copies of graded student work
with feedback (high, medium, low). The point of our review is to see how
the current offering supports the goals listed on the Course Overview (see
attached) and to develop a list of proposed changes for the Course Manager/Instructors.
You may also provide a list of proposed changes for the course. We review
and give feedback next fall to you and course manager Sun. Please contact
me if you have any questions Sample

stress more OO concepts, change to Java first, C/C++ explored in CS350/351
S/W Engineering - Efforts so far include add
UML to intro to programming classes, add version control to Data Structures,
investigate courses with projects that we could update to have more s/w
engineering issues, reinvent CS487
IPRO - much effort by IPRO office has been made
to improve IPROs
Theory - Eliminated ITM-like classes, regular
