Update on retention and graduation report from Spring 2012 S14_retention
and graduation.xls more complete picture this time
- Retention - 1st to 2nd year stay in CS around 70% recently, but 1st-2nd
year stay at IIT is over 80% recently. Still need to work on this, but
biggest factor seems to be admissions recruiting the right students.
- Action: Matt is increasing first year in person advising appts from
1 to 2 per term. School target is over 90% 1st-2nd year stay at IIT
- Graduation rate - 6 year rate is what is reported mostly (i.e. US News).
If you just count students who started as first year CS majors and
finished in 6 years with BS in CS, we had a couple first year classes
(F07 & F08) that we only graduated 50-50% in 6 years. But if you included
internal transfers into CS we are over 60%. F09 class looks promising,
already over 75% graduated in 5 years. Target is over 75% graduation in
6 years.
- Action: Matt is implementing the degreeworks planner so both advisor
and student see the effect of any withdraws or fails of classes.
Course Manager updates - CS425 Boris Glavic, CS458 Kevin Jin
Coterminals Approved - University approved coterminal degrees, 9 hours
from BS degree also counting for MS degree. UG scholarship extended for
1 year. 3.25 or above GPA, 60 hours completed to apply
