Marvin Doucey
(1927 - 2001)

The R/C modeling fraternity lost another of it’s most dedicated members on 11/7/01, when Marvin Doucey died of natural causes at his home. Marvin has been building and flying model airplanes for nearly 65 years, and has been flying R/C since 1956. He has been affiliated with nearly every aspect of R/C aircraft, including Pattern, Pylon, Float Flying, and most recently, Quarter Scale. He was a regular at many contests and fun fly’s in the Chicago area, where you could find him flying his beloved scale Twin Beech, or DC-3. He was a world class builder, expert pilot, and world class friend to all who knew him. He could always be counted on to lend a hand to those less fortunate, or less knowledgeable in the hobby. It seemed no matter how bad the crash was, Marvin would always remark that "there was too much good to throw away" – and then proceed to rebuild.

Marvin along with wife Jean raised two sons (Mark and Dave) and one daughter (Kathy). Mark and Dave went on to compete R/C Pattern throughout the country in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s, and both eventually became accomplished "full size" pilots. Marvin was able to see his two grandson’s become accomplished modelers at a very young age as well, and was always there to wipe a tear and repair a model after a "learning session". I guess an apple never falls too far from the tree! As his son, I am going to miss him greatly, but I know the modeling fraternity is going to miss him as well. He was able to retire from his job over 12 years ago, and became the "busiest" retired person I ever saw – only the "work" was a labor of love in building and flying his works of art. I would like to go on record as saying the people in this hobby are THE BEST, and all of you provided my father with a camaraderie and friendship that is desired by many, but known by few – Thank you!
