Object Databases:

The newest memebr of the database family, object databases are based upon the object oriented paradigm. These databases mesh cleanly with object oriented programming languages, and allow for more heterogeneous collection of data. For example, a Object Database of students would not only allow for the inclusion of student photos as data, but those photos could also be searchable by the software. ("I'm looking for a CS student with purple hair and a nose ring....").
