I enjoy teaching and derive great satisfaction from it. My teaching philosophy is essentially a student-centered and interactive one. It is my firm belief that one should not teach without first having identified what the needs and existing capabilities of the students in one's class are. It is only once these two things have been established that one can begin to respond to their academic requirements. Thus, teaching should never be top-down (i.e. dictated by what I think the students need), but should be bottom up, where students express their needs, and I respond to them. During this process, I believe that interaction, both tutor-student and student-student, needs to be encouraged because this promotes discussion and debate, which in turn leads to learning.
