Scribe Guidelines
Each paper will be assigned one or two scribes. A scribe has the following
responsibilities:
- Read the paper carefully, and prepare a one para summary of the paper and
email it to the prof (or post it to the class blackboard) by NOON time of the day on which the paper is
to be discussed. The summary SHOULD NOT simply be the abstract of the paper
itself!
- Give a 3-minute overview of the paper in class when called upon to do so.
- Record the class discussion of the paper you are scribing.
- Prepare and post to the blackboard a summary of the class discussion on the
paper you are scribing.
- Work with the other scribes for ALL the papers covered during the class
period and prepare a report connecting all the papers together in some
reasonable fashion.
For the papers you are scribing, ensure that you hit the following points
in the report:
- What is the problem addressed in the paper?
- What is the proposed solution approach?
- What alternatives have been considered, not considered in this solution
approach?
- What is good about the paper?
- What is not so good about the paper?
- What follow on work is possible to this paper?
