Abstract: Google Code (http://code.google.com/hosting/) provides free Subversion repositories to open source projects --- but unlike the myriad of other such hosting providers on the web, Google's service is powered by a custom fork of Subversion that is optimized for its proprietary infrastructure. This talk will discuss how we took a legacy system whose design is deeply tied to the idea of running on a single machine and turned it into a highly scalable distributed system.
